Tributes in Shachar’s Memory

Shachar’s very essence was giving to others, loving every person, and helping those around him — especially the “little people who fall out of our line of sight.”

Into the large shoes he left behind have stepped thousands of people and hundreds of projects, all aiming to continue spreading the light he brought into the world. Here are some of the initiatives and memorial projects created in his honor:

The Wishes Taxi" – in collaboration with Get Taxi.

The project was born from a partnership between Shachar Fridman’s family and Gett, with the goal of spreading goodness in Israeli society. Hundreds of wishes were collected through the app and social networks, and dozens of influencers and media organizations volunteered to fulfill them—small and large—to bring joy to people across the country. What began as a small idea has grown into an initiative that spreads light and happiness, continuing Shachar Fridman’s legacy.

"Telam Spring"

A spring established in the village of Telam in memory of three brothers-in-arms who fell together in battle: Sgt. Shachar Fridman, Sgt. Jamal Abbas, and Sgt. Benjamin Arly. The spring serves as a place of tranquility, connection with nature, and remembrance, inviting visitors to pause, reflect, and honor their memory.

"Chesed Cafeteria" and "Mobile Chesed Unit"

Donated at Shaare Zedek Medical Center and Hillel Yaffe Hospital in collaboration with the Lev Chabad organization in memory of Sgt. Shachar Fridman z”l. They carry his testament: “The greatest virtue a person can have is the ability to make another person happy.” These locations offer warmth, respite, and comfort to patients, families, and medical staff, continuing Shachar Fridman’s mission of spreading goodness and joy.

The performance combines international circus arts, texts, videos, and stunning effects, and includes quotes from his famous testament: “The greatest virtue a person can have is the ability to make another person happy” and “Be good people.” Shachar Fridman’s testament served as the main inspiration for the circus’s success, even during financial challenges caused by the war. "Life Fabric" Exhibition

An emotional exhibition dedicated to remembering those who are no longer with us after the difficult year starting October 13, 2023. Artists trained as memory designers met with bereaved families and chose unique perspectives to tell the life stories of their loved ones. The works aim to gently address grief, create new spaces of love, and preserve the good times that were and will be. As part of the exhibition, a “Day of Good Deeds” was held and writings in Shachar Fridman’s memory were made on 10.07—a symbolic reversal of the massacre day—during which people from all over the country performed good deeds in his honor and wrote about them. This effort resulted in a book exhibited as part of the exhibition, directly continuing Shachar Fridman’s message of joy and giving.

“Shachar Fridman Chocolate”

As part of volunteer work with a unique “Chesed Patrol” (SChY), every needy family receives a “Shachar Fridman Chocolate” as a symbol of continuing his spirit of generosity and goodness. The chocolate serves as a sweet, connecting memory and allows everyone to take part in spreading Shachar Fridman’s light in the community.

"Something Small and Good"

is a project aimed at bringing light and comfort to patients and soldiers in hospitals across the country. The idea was born by Hila Fitzer, a certified behavioral analyst who experienced the harsh conditions in internal wards and realized that while one cannot change everything, one can do “something small and good.” The personal kit includes basic hygiene products such as wipes, soap, shampoo and conditioner, hand cream, lip balm, hairbrushes and toothbrushes, eye masks and earplugs, socks, cups for hot drinks, and more—to slightly improve the hospital stay experience. In line with Shachar Fridman’s commandment to spread goodness, Shachar’s Light collaborated with the project to distribute the kits nationwide with volunteers, bringing joy and comfort to patients and soldiers everywhere.

Heritage lectures and inspiration sessions

As part of Shachar’s Light activities, lectures are held in Israel and worldwide to introduce Shachar Fridman’s legacy, share his life story, and provide inspiration, encouragement, and hope for the future. Every child who demonstrates behavior of “seeing the other” and applies the values of giving and joy receives a symbolic duck. For about thirty years, the kindergarten was called “The Roses Garden” or “Ilana’s Garden,” but last year, after Shachar Fridman’s passing, Ilana decided to rename it in his honor to preserve his legacy and positive message.
